Words to Understand

Jealousy, envy, coveting, and sour grapes belong to the “Thinking Sins” family.  They are included in the “Mental Attitude sins” group.  Although they are alike in many ways, there are some differences.

Jealousy

When you are feeling afraid that your friend or someone that you care for may like someone else better than they like you.  You want all of your friend’s attention.

Envy

Disliking someone because they have something that you wish you had, like better grades, being a good athlete, being more popular or being better looking than you.

Coveting

Wanting things that you do not have, never being satisfied, always wanting more, being very greedy.

Sour Grapes

Putting others down because they may have what you want.  Becoming bitter, being a real sour puss with a bad attitude about many things.
